Yubnub : A Command Line for The Internet

by DJ Neawedde | 4th June 2005

YubNubYubnub.org is a command line for the internet. Sort of like a dynamically changing database of macros or shortcuts to your most common web surfing functions. If you’re familiar with a Windows or linux/unix command line, you’ll feel right at home using yubnub. There are tons of commands currently available. For example, if you’d like to quickly do a Google image search for “columbian coffee” you would type gim columbian coffee. The idea is to skip the process involved in getting your results I guess. What I find to be most interesting about yubnub, and what seems to make it work is the fact that its list of command is completely dynamic. You and anyone else can add commands for whatever, whenever you like. I created a command, SFIMAX, to check the IMAX movie times at the theater here in San Francisco. As you can imagine, typing this one command is far quicker than choosing a movie times site, entering zipcodes, and then paging through theater after theater trying to find the one I want.

Yubnub was created by Jon Aquino as a submission into the Rails Day 2005 24hour programming contest.
