Amnesty International Seeks To End Net Repression

The human rights grouped called on Web users to sign a pledge for governments to halt the censoring of sites and urging technology corporations not to collude with them. Amnesty has uncovered Internet repression in areas around the globe including China, Tunisia, Vietnam, Iran , Israel and Maldives.

Calling for the release of “cyber dissidents” jailed for expressing their political views online, Amnesty said Internet cafes are being shut down, computers seized, chat rooms monitored and blogs deleted.

Yahoo is seeking the U.S. government’s help in urging China to allow more media freedom. However, Google has come under fire for saying it will block potentially sensitive terms on it’s new China site, following the conditions set by Beijing. Read the full article at ZD Net.
