Webaroo: Offline Search

by DJ Neawedde | 14th June 2006

WebarooWebaroo is a free downloadable application and service thats allows you to browse real web pages without a connection. You can store searchable web content on your laptop, PDA or phone. The searches run and the pages load at memory speed, so it is definitely fast. You can also update your content everytime you plug in and sync. The process goes like this: Webaroo servers collect data from the web and create what are called “Web Packs”(a large collection of web pages, along with meta-data that enables search, updates and more about a specific topic. Web packs created by Webaroo are generally optimized for Content Density i.e. the most content value in the least storage size. Webaroo determines the content value based on the diversity, relevancy and quality of the pages, so that they deliver good results for almost most any query related to the topic.), you then download Web Packs and web sites and search the content anytime anywhere without a connection. The company is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington with offices in Santa Clara (California), Mumbai (India) and New Delhi (India). It is only available for Windows right now but hopefully there will be a version for Mac soon.
