Sony announced Wednesday that it has begun shipping the 50GB Dual Layer Recordable Blu-ray Discs to the United States. The discs, which can be written once, store up to four hours of high-definition video. Sony says its
AccuCORE technology has been re-engineered for Blu-ray Disc media and provides stable writing and durability under severe changes in temperature and humidity among other benefits. The discs will retail for $48. Sony also confirmed that it will ship rewritable Blu-ray media later this year.
