ROAD HandyPC Linux Smart Phone
The demands on digital companions as tools for working and communication have increased - especially in terms of being compact but having plenty of functions. The time is right for a new generation of mobile devices, that is, mobile phones incorporating PC functionalities significantly more advanced than present-day PDAs.
German phone maker ROAD (Remote Office Access Device) has announced its answer to Nokia’s Communicator. Dubbed the S101K HandyPC, the phone-computer combo is based on the Linux operating system and Trolltech’s Qtopia GUI, like Sony’s Mylo. It’s a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE device with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth too.

Opening the device reveals a keyboard and a 640 x 240 display - closed, the unit presents a 102 x 65 monochrome phone screen. The HandyPC contains the usual array of management and messaging apps, along with a viewer to read Microsoft Office files. It will ship with PC synchronization tools, media player software and a web browser. It can even be used as a voice recorder. There is an SD memory slot and a battery life of 5 hours. More Linux.
