by DJ Neawedde | 9th October 2006

Google buys YouTubeWhat was only a rumor just days ago is now a confirmed deal. In their largest acquisition ever, Google has acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion in an all stock transaction.

As for relations between the two companies, Google plans to leverage its “advertiser relationships” - the plan to combine Google Adsense for Video with Google Video might also carry over to YouTube. Both companies approved the deal earlier today, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2006.

Google is hosting a conference call and webcast to discuss the deal. It is just starting now. If you missed the live webcast, a replay of the call will be available until midnight Monday, October 16 at 888-203-1112 domestically and 719-457-0820 internationally. Confirmation code for the replay is 2260624.
