What was only a rumor just days ago is now a confirmed deal. In their largest acquisition ever, Google has acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion in an all stock transaction.
As for relations between the two companies, Google plans to leverage its “advertiser relationships†- the plan to combine Google Adsense for Video with Google Video might also carry over to YouTube. Both companies approved the deal earlier today, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2006.
Google is hosting a conference call and webcast to discuss the deal. It is just starting now. If you missed the live webcast, a replay of the call will be available until midnight Monday, October 16 at 888-203-1112 domestically and 719-457-0820 internationally. Confirmation code for the replay is 2260624.
More coverage via TechCrunch, Mashable! and ForeverGeek shares this makes sense for Google.

[…] Since the Google-YouTube acquisition on Monday, the site has been down almost permanently, says owner Ralph Girkins, due to high traffic to his site. He also says the $1 million offer came from an intermediary claiming to represent YouTube. A YouTube spokesperson, meanwhile, says they’re not interested. He hasn’t spoken to Google or YouTube directly, but he has received around 20 phone calls from people who want to sell the domain for him. […]

[…] Next, as Cashmore states in his post above, ‘MySpace was responsible for the initial seeding of [YouTube] but now YouTube has become a destination of its own.’ YouTube is self sufficient, and Google aquiring YouTube is a sure sign of this. YouTube is clearly an imprinted brand in many web surfers’ heads now. […]

Diversion Media, the parent of Travelistic, is a startup led by Nicholas Butterworth who is the former head of onlinefor MTV. The video sharing arena of the web will be an interesting sector to keep an eye on - considering the recent Google-YouTube acquistion, MySpace Video’s recent attempts to displaceand new video mashup PureVideo’s debut. I believe Travelistic will rise fast and be more than successful due to the site’s very niche content and large target audience. […] Universal Tube and Rollform Equipment Corp., of Perrysburg, Ohio, has the web site www.utube.com selling tube, pipe, and rollforming machinery. Since Google acquired You Tube, web surfers have been mixing up the two sites, accidentally typing i “utube.com” instead of”youtube.com” in their address bars. So traffic on Universal Tube’s web site went from 1,500 unique users per month to more than 2,000,000. […]
