Swallow PillCam with glass of water

PillCam Colon

Given Imaging (Israel) is releasing its third capsule endoscope, for which it has already received EU’s CE Mark of approval. The company will unveil its product at the United European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW) in Berlin, Germany.

The capsule measures 11 mm by 31 mm — about the size of a vitamin pill. The capsule has tiny cameras at each end which capture 4 images a second for up to 10 hours. Each camera contains automatic lighting control and captures more than twice the coverage area and depth of field of the PillCam(TM) SB capsule that is used to diagnose diseases in the small intestine.

Pivotal multi-center trials are underway in Europe and the U.S. Also, it’s easy to take - a patient simply swallows the PillCam Colon capsule with a glass of water. Given Imaging added that it expects to file for clearance of PillCam Colon with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by the end of 2006. Hey, that’s neat! Via Medgadget
