Firefox 2 gets 2 million downloads in 24 Hrs

Firefox 2.0Firefox 2 out runs IE7 again. Within 24 hours of the official Firefox 2 launch on Tuesday, there were over 2 million people has downloaded the shiny new Firefox 2. According to Mike Beltzner of Mozilla “we were seeing a peak rate of more than 30 downloads per second.”

Downloads compared between earlier releases of Firefox look like this:

Firefox 1.0: 1 million downloads in the first 24 hours.
Firefox 1.5: 1.5 million downloads in the first 24 hours
Firefox 2: 2 million (actually slightly more) people using Firefox 2 in the first 24 hours.

Comparing to the recent IE7 release: Tony Chor, the IE team’s Group Program Manager, said that IE7 was downloaded over 3 million times during the first four days of availability.
