Web reaches 100 million websitesInternet monitoring company Netcraft has tracked Web growth since 1995, and is saying a milestone was reached during the month of October, and that there are now over 100 million websites. See the growth chart.

“There are now 100 million Web sites with domain names and content on them,” said Netcraft’s Rich Miller.

Apparently, much of the growth has happened within the past two years. For that we can thank - bloggers, small businesses and new methods making it easier for average less internet savvy people build their own sites.

In August 1995, there were just 18,000 Web sites, when Netcraft, based in Bath, England, began keeping track. It took until May 2004 to reach the 50 million milestone. Also, Netcraft says the United States, Germany, China, South Korea and Japan show the greatest spikes in web growth.

How long do you think it will take to reach 200 million websites?
