DaVinci Forgiato Radurra clear polycarbonate wheels

After we saw the Michelin Tweel Airless Tires, we thought we seen the crazy tire concept ever. Well, at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, we were presented with these clear D’Vinci Forgiato Radurra wheels, which definitely bring the tire industry to another dimension. They are made of two inch thick polycarbonate, and are available in 20, 22 and 24 inch sizes for around $2,000 each. Via CarDomain Blog and CrunchGear

I was actually at the SEMA show and had a chance to view the wheel up close. It is one if not the most innovative concept put to reality in the Auto accessory business. I must commend Forgiatto for bringing a whole new dimension to the wheel business. The wheels look ten times better in real life then they do in pictures.

I’m partial to black rims, and these just make a tough statement even cooler with being transparent. MAHAMAHA…

thought of the possiblity of this a while back…. do know that you’ll see this with neon or led’s on a car in a hollywood prod within 2 years.
is there any practical use for this? wouldn’t brakes get toasty? how heavy are they?

20, 22, and 24″ wheel sizes: Most people who use these sizes of wheels don’t care about weight in the first place.
I’m going to assume these Radurra’s are going to weigh a lot. While polycarbonate is lighter than glass or steel; it is still a 2 inch by what? 18 inch slab of material? I’d be guessing 20-30 lbs per wheel without tire.

[…] Spinning rims are already over and even the new black rims which are literally the new black in the automotive world are about to give way to clear. As in an all clear wheel made of 100% 2-inch thick polycarbonate from D’Vinci Forgiato. The company claims its Radurra line of wheels are just as strong as today’s top rims. A super cool version for motorcycles is also available, and the auto rims come in 20, 22 and 24 inch sizes. (Hey - what about my scooter?) We Say: at $2,000 a wheel and with the mess most brakes generate, we don’t expect to see clearly on this one anytime soon. Cool idea though, especially on bikes. Yeah I see more than a few problems with this.
With no holes, brakes will get hot. Hot brakes will melt plastic. Not only that but you have to use ceramic or carbon fiber pads to keep the dust down. Can you imagine cleaning these wheels every single day?
We all know by now how bad polycarbonate plastic is at scratching as well. These will look good for maybe..the first day you have them. Maybe. After that they’ll look like any other old motorcycle helmet visor, scratched all to hell and ugly.
Good idea..but extremely impractical. I guess the car show set needs some new toys once in awhile.

I agree about the brakes overheating, and the dirt on the inside. Why not a cheap peel-off plastic layer on the outside to prevent scratching? Many watches and other electronic devices have those clear sheets that you peel off before use to keep the screen from getting scratched. Why not do the same, a little thicker for these clear wheels?

If people want to have a clear wheel, then why not simply expand the diameter of the axle to just under the actual diameter of the barrel of the wheel. It’s been done on motorcycle wheels and if the axle is almost the same diameter of the wheel itself, it is basically a hollow wheel (no face)

For the hollow wheel, search for the “Osmos wheel.”

I like how no one posted the pics of the two jacks supporting the car while it’s in their display! This product is a law suite waiting to happen

if these rims comes in 18s or 19s I have to buy a pair for my pimped out buick skylark, will those fit on that car, I’m a car mechanic I will make this rims fit.

Fine for cars and trucks but I think on the bikes they would create a lot of drag and stability issues when the air is hitting hard from the side,
think i’ll stick with the spokes for now thanks
