Verizon, YouTube to bring web videos to mobile phones, TV

by DJ Neawedde | 7th November 2006

Verizon YouTube DealAccording to the Wall Street Journal, Verizon and YouTube are in “advanced talks” to bring YouTube’s web videos to mobile phones and television. It is expected that Verizon’s mobile customers will be able to view YouTube videos through the V Cast service. The deal would also see YouTube on the televisions of subscribers to Verizon’s FiOS TV service via an on-demand type service.

The deal would definitely leverage Verizon’s position in the online market and further solidify YouTube as the video content king. If this goes through, it is highly likely more mobile service providers will be lining up to sign similar distribution deals.
