Microsoft unveils Aggreg8, MySpace for IT geeks

by DJ Neawedde | 10th November 2006

Microsoft Aggreg8Microsoft has announced their new social network today, Aggreg8, essentially a MySpace for IT peeps. Like most social networking sites, you can create a profile, join groups and write a blog. An interesting move by Microsoft, but possibly a smart move. And as Microsoft states, Aggreg8 is an “international not-for-profit organization devoted to the development and growth of the IT community.”

Here’s my first thought I had when visiting the Aggreg8 site for the first time, as Pete Cashmore also states, “Unfortunately, the site uses Microsoft’s ridiculous Passport system for the log in - if you ever remember the password for that unused hotmail account of yours (I never do), you’ll find that you can then use completely different log in details for Aggreg8 itself, making you wonder why the heck they bothered with the Passport step.”

Yeah, ironically the very demographic that would be ALL over this is … Linux geeks.

      Hmmm.

Let’s wait for the geeks to build their own service.
