by DJ Neawedde | 26th November 2006

Linux PenguinIn June 2007, 1,154 parliamentary workstations in the French National Assembly will make the switch to Linux. France will have to pay for training on the Linux machines, but the Assembly said that the use of open-source software will result in significant cost savings.

Some of the Assembly’s servers are currently running Linux, but this is the first major step for PCs to start using Linux.

According to DailyTech, “several cities and nations around the world have started migrating towards open source technology. The city of Chicago is in the process of migrating to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system.”
