WibreeABI Research has announced that the market for Nokia’s Wibree based products could reach US$513 million by 2011, if “five key prerequisites are all met within the same time frame.”

ABI believes that Wibree has great potential in the medical and sports sectors. They forecast that 800 million Wibree enabled devices in 2011 is possible if five conditions are met.

The assumptions are: that Nokia will force Wibree into handsets at the earliest opportunity; that silicon vendors will bring dual mode ICs to market at prices very close to those of Bluetooth ICs today; and that the ratio of dual mode to standalone devices will grow rapidly after a period of market seeding.

Carlaw added, “By far the biggest factors that will dictate the outcome for Wibree are the adoption of the technology by the Bluetooth SIG, and its widespread adoption by numerous handset vendors. Via Business Wire
