Intel just announced that they will donate 700-800 of their Classmate PCs (shown above) to Brazil for an in-school evaluation. Brazil will be comparing the Classmate PC to the OLPC prototype.

Pricing as of now is $400 for Intel’s Classmate PC, and $150 for the OLPC.

“We’re going to put it in the classroom and see how it does,” says Jose Aquinto.

Walter Bender of OLPC stated, “The only way the price is going to continue to go down is competition in the marketplace.” OLPC expects to sell several million devices to governments in developing countries, beginning with Brazil, Nigeria, Libya, Argentina and Thailand.
