2.3 trillion text messages sent by 2010

A new survey has concluded text messages sent to and from mobile phones will double over the next five years to 2.3 trillion messages sent by 2010.
“The number of messages transmitted over short message service (SMS) systems in 2005 was estimated at 936 billion, according to British market research group Gartner.Total revenues from text messaging is forecast to grow to $US72.5 billion ($8.92 billion) in 2010 from $US39.5 billion in 2005.”
Apparently, wireless messaging is the most successful mainstream mobile data service to have emerged in the history of the cellular telecoms industry.
