Wikia, Amazon launching Wikiasari

by DJ Neawedde | 26th December 2006

Jimmy WalesJimmy Wales (shown right), founder of Wikipedia, plans to launch a search engine called Wikiasari in early 2007. The new search engine will have user-editable search results and has investment backing from Amazon and others of over $4 million in capital.

Many are calling Wikiasari a possible Google, Yahoo rival. According to Half Baked, “Wales has already been vocal about wanting to take on some of Google’s most noticeable flaws–in particular, the tendency for useless or spam-ridden results to pop up.”

So it is obvious that Wikiasari will be competing with Google and Yahoo. However, I definitely do not see this as a threat to Google. And if seen as a threat by Google, they will be the chameleon that they are and adapt. There’s too much innovation spewing from Google to let a start-up take the throne of search.
