Seagate shipping 10 GB wireless hard drive for cellphones in Q2

by DJ Neawedde | 31st January 2007

The drive, which was code-named “Crickett,” will offer 10 GB at first, then will expand to up to 20 GB for the future. Seagate is now calling it ‘DAVE’ (Digital Audio Video Experience), featuring a 10hr continuous operation battery life or 14 days standby. Weighing in at 2.5 ounces (70g), and can tell within centimetres of a drop that it needs to park the drive’s head, before locking them totally.

TG Daily says, “The Dave drive is likely to be highest capacity storage solution, when it will be introduced in Q2, outpacing the 4 GB integrated hard drive storage of the Nokia N91 music phone and offering five times the capacity of today’s largest microSD flash memory cards.”
