Novel 3D Search Engine in the works
A new 3D molecular search engine is in development by Oxford University researchers. The technique, Ultrafast Shape Recognition (USR) is over 1,500 times faster than any engines like this previously developed.
According to NewScientistTech, “The new technique uses a different approach. It analyses the position of the different atoms within a molecule to understand its shape. These relative positions can be mapped and stored a molecular database.”
It’s a much faster way to quickly match 3D shapes using mathematic algorithms. This will definitely speed up searches for new drugs, and lead to revolutionary 3D search engines for finding objects in platforms like Google Earth.
