Use magicJack to make free phone calls

by DJ Neawedde | 13th March 2007

The magicJack is a sweet little gadget that installs some software after you get plugged in via USB, then connecting the other end to a phone jack in your home. This lets you use your standard house phone to make calls for free. A few other features include caller ID, call waiting, and call forwarding. No Mac support (doh!), just XP and launching this April, but no price announced.

I got one Magic Jack from a representative in Miami. I live in Kingston Jamaica, i Have high speed internet service provided by www.flowjamaica.com,it’s hooked up to my hh laptop computer. The computer is seeing the Magic Jack, however, it does not make any connection to the service provider, hence it keeps “waiting for proxy recognition” and does not access the network. What’s the problem?

    5. george Says:

I am having the similar problem as Tony M. the frigging just sits there and says “please connect to the internet and double click here (error3)” even though I am connected to the internet. And of course there is no support from this company to assist

    6. Marilyn Lightsey Says:

Not sure about this. Can’t get any help to receive calls, and it keeps telling me I don’t have computer support. Kind of a waste of time. NO ONE TO CALL WITH PROBLEMS IS A REAL CONCERN FOR ME.

    9. Issom Boone Says:

We recently got a magicjack, the frigging thing is useless, what a rip-off, can’t communicate, can’t send or recieve calls, and the magicjack data base has a very limited group of area codes, so if it did work and my next door neighbor calls us, it would cost them long distance charges, it just plain sux.

    10. Patricia l Bjornson Says:

I have had my home phone number for 30 years and I do not want to lose the number everyone knows. Can I just use M/J for long distance then remove it and use my home phone number?
      Thank You

    11. Raquel Says:

I got magic jack to work beautifully within the States and to Canada, but couldn’t do overseas call connections even to Jamaica, so I’m not sure if I took the device while on business in the Pacific, (NZ and Australia) if the device will trully work for USA calls. Any comments cos I couldn’t even raise technical or customer support via phone or email.
