Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Media Player unveiled at NAB

Microsoft Silverlight Microsoft, at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show in Las Vegas, has announced their new Silverlight media player taking direct aim at Adobe’s Flash Player. Silverlight is a cross-browser (IE/Safari/Firefox), cross-platform plug-in for delivering rich interactive applications (RIAs) on the Web.

Some media companies have already announced support for Silverlight like Akamai, Brightcove, Eyeblaster, Limelight, Major League Baseball, NaviSite Inc., Netflix and others. More at MSDN

Adobe Media Player Adobe has also announced the new Adobe Media Player at NAB 2007. Media Player will be its own application separate from the browser, running on Windows or Mac OS X. Adobe says that Media Player is very publisher friendly, allowing them to brand the player and embed ads in video clips. Additionally, publishers can deliver content via on-demand streaming, live streaming, progressive downloads, or protected download-and-play. Should be available as a free beta download by the end of 2007
