Every household in U.K. to get free energy monitors

In an effort to help cut greenhouse emissions and save consumers money, the U.K. will offer every household a chance to get a new “smart meter’. It’s a portable device giving consumers real-time information of how much electricity is being consumed, and they can be read remotely by energy suppliers.
A spokeswoman for Energywatch says, “Consumers tell us they are desperate to bring down bills so I hope the industry is ready to meet consumer demand for these devices.” According to BBC, “Households in the UK are responsible for about one third of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions”
