Print Google Maps Directions at the Gas Pump
by DJ Neawedde | 7th November 2007

Google has announced a partnership gas pump maker Gilbarco Veeder-Root, and 3,500 U.S. gas stations will soon (early-December) be outfitted with Google Maps at their pumps. The pumps will be connected to the internet enabling users to scroll through several categories to find local landmarks, hotels, restaurants and hospitals (all picked by gas station owner), then print directions. Future models will allow for input of addresses for custom directions. Even though you can’t put your address of choice in, this will still be useful to out-of-towners who just want directions to some basic places.

Interesting how each gas station gets to choose what/who appears on the maps. Eventually this will become another ad revenue stream and restaurants and other places will pay a minimal fee (through the gas station or through Adwords) to appear on the maps.

Some of the gas stations I go to don’t keep paper in their receipt printer, so how frustrating would it be to finally get directions and not be able to print them out?

:) - Butch - I hadn’t thought of that yet. Indeed! Man that drives me nuts. So do you ever go inside to get it?
