You may have caught our previous post earlier this year on
upcoming video games for 2008. Now that 2008 is almost upon us let’s take a look at some new additions to the list.
Ghostbusters - Fall 2008
Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters! It’s about time the Ghostbusters franchise released a video game to quell our appetite for chasing ghosts. Ray, Venkman, Spengler, Winston, and Slimer are all back for your enjoyment. Each Ghostbuster in the game will be voiced by the original actors. How sweet is that? For those of you that have been waiting years for Ghostbusters III the movie, here is some more great news (as if you can handle any more). Dan Aykroyd has confirmed that the video game is essentially the same plot as was originally created for the movie. The Ghostbusters video game trailer looks very appealing. This video game would have been great back in the height of the Ghostbusters franchise, but with the better technology and graphics today, it looks to be even more fantastic. Now remember, whatever you do, don’t cross the streams!
Available For: XBox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PC
Publisher: Sierra
Check out more at the official Ghostbusters video game website.
Assassin’s Creed - Out Now
The buzz and previews around Assassin’s Creed looks like this could be
the video game of 2008. An original and sexy plot line, fantastic graphics, and violence that will make any teenager smile definitely make this a game to check out. The premise of the game is that you (the main character) come from a lineage of assassins back in the period of the Third Crusade. You must assassinate the figures propagating the Crusades and destroy their conspiracy plans. The game environment and characters are supposedly historically accurate and based on real locations and people. How many times have you wished you were back in the Crusades and had a chance to fight the crushing religous tyranny? Every day.
Available For: XBox 360, PS3
Publisher: Ubisoft

Mario Kart Wii - Spring 2008
For anyone that has ever played any of the Mario Kart games I assume you’re probably rushing out the door right now to purchase a Wii. For good reason too. Mario Kart is such a classic and fun game that never gets boring. Anyone can play, there’s no violence, and everyone eventually becomes deeply loyal to their favorite character (Toad, oh yea!). You get to choose from a number of Super Mario characters and drive around in a go-kart on a very Mario-esque race track. Additionally, you can play in battle mode, which pits you directly against your friends in an all out driving frenzy as you attempt to take out each others karts with various tools. With the additional fun of using the Wii controller, this should make for an intensely amusing group activity.
Available For: Wii
Publisher: Nintendo
Halo Wars - April 2008
Halo enthusiasts, better take your heart medication now. The next installment in the Halo franchise will be available in April next year and the crazy-awesome video preview should get the blood flowing to those video game thumbs. Halo Wars is set in an earlier time of the Halo universe, which will lead up to the period from the first Halo game. You will command armies of United Nations Space Commands in the initial battle against the Covenant. This is more of a strategy game than the all out firefight of previous Halo games. So if you beat the Covenant in Halo Wars, does the rest of the Halo series cease to exist? Now there’s some “Back-to-the-Future” theory to ponder.
Available For: XBox 360
Publisher: Microsoft

Grand Theft Auto IV - Spring 2008
The violence and mayhem continues in the 4th installment of the Grand Theft Auto video game series. GTA 4 is set in Liberty City (based heavily on New York City complete with a “Statue of Happiness”), where our character Niko Bellic is ready to wreak havoc in typical GTA fashion. The usual missions will still be a main part of the gameplay, but Grand Theft Auto IV allows for much more exploration outside of the set missions. This will immerse you in the environment, as what you do outside the missons will affect the storyline. All in all, it looks to be another hit for Rockstar Games. As the lady in the video trailer says, “Please, no more killing”. Never; GTA always has to one-up itself. Viva la violence.
Available For: XBox 360, PS3
Publisher: Rockstar Games

Legendary: The Box - Q2 2008
Legendary: The Box, set to release in early-mid 2008, brings us another unique storyline. This first person shooter follows a thief who opens up the mythological and sincerely evil Pandora’s Box. Once the powers inside are released, Earth is quickly under attack by hordes of menacing creatures. One of the unique characteristics of Legendary gameplay is the three way enemy artificial intelligence. Your opponents may fight you or other opponents depending on which is considered a bigger threat. But have no fear, opening Pandora’s Box has given your character special powers as well. Laugh in delight (or scream in fright) as you singe the hair off oncoming werewolves by summoning fire in their direction.
Available For: XBox 360, PS3
Publisher: Gamecock

Assassins Creed is already out…It was released Nov 17th 2007.
I’d have to agree that Spore is the game I’m looking forward to the most. Ghostbusters will either be extremely fun or really really boring, I’m not sure yet.
