Logitech have taken a leaf out of the Wii’s book, and created a mouse that works by recognizing movement. You can use it on the desk like a normal mouse, or move it through mid-air.
Rory Dooley, Senior VP at Logitech, said, “The MX Air mouse offers a radically new way for people to control their PC entertainment. It’s for anyone who has listened to music on their PC and been frustrated by having to return to the desk to change songs or volume. It’s for people who want to share vacation photos with friends and family without being tied to the desk. It’s for any of the millions of people using the Internet to browse and watch videos on sites such as YouTube or Grouper. And it’s for people with a living-room computer or media PC who want to navigate their media content on their terms.”
Thanks to Xavier for the tip!

Santa Cruz based Wireless Cables Inc. (WCI) has unveiled a new Bluetooth ‘dongle’ capable of reaching almost 19 miles. The AIRcable, as it’s named, connects via USB and is good for Linux, OS X, and Windows.
And as you may know and as WCI says, typical Bluetooth dongles have an average reach of about 30 feet. But don’t get too excited, the antenna included with the AIRcable Host XR only offers a range of about .6 miles; with the AIRcable Industrial XR doing the 18 miles and apparently needing professional installation. The Host XR will go for about $130 with the Industrial XR for $300.

Japanese company SunShine Co. claims it’s new ‘EQGuard’ gadget, about the size of a ‘paperback novel’, will be able to warn you before a quake hits. It does this using information from Japan’s ‘early-warning system network’ and the Japan Meteorological Agency. Once a quake is predicted, it begins a loud countdown giving you 20 seconds to sprint for cover and/or stabilize yourself.
While this is a nice head start, it’s still pretty short. And, “The alerts could precede the shaking by 10 to 20 seconds, although the period would be much shorter — and in some cases absent — if the tremor’s centre is near.” So I wouldn’t count on it anytime soon. More [Reuters]

According to Taiwanese chip manufacturer Winbond, the highend SideShow device (Ricavision MK140 eChatter, shown above), which has a full QWERTY keyboard and 5-inch display, will cost ‘approximately $150.’ And the smaller device with a 3.5-inch touchscreen will be ‘about $80.’
Texyt is also reporting that “Ricavision is also developing the ‘Home E-Reader’, a Windows SideShow handheld with a large, high-contrast, low power e-Paper display. The E-Reader is designed for off line reading of downloaded documents and e-books.”

CA has launched it’s new Internet Security Suite 2007 and Desktop DNA Migrator 2007 software on a 2GB flash memory card that fits in your wallet. This isn’t the first wallet-sized USB memory card we’ve seen though, check out the 2GB Walletex and there’s also a super-thin MP3 player.
The drive is compatible with both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 ports. The CA Internet Security Suite Flash Drive sells for $70.

Ah yes, perfect for shredding those uber-sensitive Starbucks receipts on the fly. Just plug in via USB and begin shredding. Seriously though, it’s a great idea for voided checks, etc. If no USB is available, just pop in four AA batteries. It measures 253mm x 69mm 48mm and weighs in at 351 grams. By the way, I think this is the smallest USB shredder we’ve seen yet. Now what to do with all those shreddings…

Police in the UK are testing out a new “spy drone” meant to help reduce anti-social behavior and disorder. They took a drastic step like this back in September when they hooked up loudspeakers to street cameras. The trial runs start in June and will go on for about 3 months. According to BBC, the drones “are flown by remote control or using pre-programmed GPS navigation systems, are silent and can be fitted with night-vision cameras.” How do you think the people of the UK will respond to this?

Optimus are now
accepting pre-orders on their overpriced, but very impressive, Maximus keyboard. The keys of the Maximus aren’t printed, they’re small LCD screens that can be configured to display whatever you want. They’ll be making 200 at the start of December, 200 at the end of December and a further 400 in January, so it’s a pretty exclusive piece of kit. However, at over $1500, I doubt that they’ll sell out too quickly.
