Talk about a tasty deal on a decent laptop with Fedora Linux pre-installed. It’s the Celebrity from Sweden based Medison, and when it comes to making uber-cheap PCs - it blows the OLPC (about $175) and Intel Classmate PC (about $200) out of the water.
The features are very impressive for the price: 14-inch WXGA display, 1.5GHz Intel Celeron M 370 processor, 256MB RAM (expandable to 1GB), 40GB hard drive, WiFi, 3 USB ports, PC Card slot, and stereo speakers. They say they’ll ship within 4-6 weeks. Medison
According to CrunchGears sources, the new MacBooks rumoured to be coming in October will have the MultiTouch feature from the iPhone.
The feature will be built into the touchpads, allowing you to navigate through your notebook’s files, applications, etc. the same way you can on the iPhone. (Yes, I know you can already scroll with them, that’s nothing new. I’m talking about all the other finger gestures that can be done on the iPhone’s screen.)
I’ll be in the market for a new notebook around that time, so I’ll be eagerly watching.

Creative has just announced their new Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook, the ExpressCard audio upgrade for notebooks. It features line level and digital optical inputs/outputs as well as microphone and headphone jacks, plus the option to connect 5.1 or 7.1 surround speakers via the optional docking module. Also cool is Creative’s X-Fi Crystalizer technology, that restores detail and quality lost during compression to MP3 and DivX. Creative
If you work in IT, sometimes it can feel like you’re chained to your desk. One guy found an interesting way to spend more time out of the office, taking a job as the trained geek on an expedition up Mount Everest.
We were tasked with an enormous challenge - to produce constantly refreshed content for a vast multi-media web portal, and to do this while climbing the world’s highest mountain. I would join up with an elite crew of climbers, cameramen and production personnel and we would attempt to climb the worlds highest peak, film it and bring it to the world live on the web.
The fact that this guy was able to process and upload photos and videos, from the side of Mount Everest, really shows how far mobile computing has come. What a great job to have. :: UEverest.com

With the recent spec increases on the MacBook range, the people behind ModBook have contacted those who pre-ordered one of their tablet Macs to tell them that their spec will increase accordingly. That’s good service. The ModBook range starts at $2,279.
Built for mobile users, artists, students and professionals, the ModBook enables its user to draw and write directly on the screen, while the handwriting recognition built-into Mac OS X Tiger not only turns hand scribbles into text in every application, but also provides extended control of the system through gesture recognition.
We had some previous coverage of the ModBook here and here.
Uncompromising gaming performance in a mobile package has come to the UAE, in the Asus G mobile gaming notebooks. The G series machines are designed from top to bottom with gaming in mind, and clearly Asus have paid a lot of attention to detail.
The range is based on Intel’s Centrino Duo Mobile Technology, meaning that they perform well in graphics benchmark tests, but still maintain a decent battery life. Alongside this sits the capable nVidia 7700 graphics card, equipped with 512MB, and capable of borrowing 256 more from the system memory when needed.
There are a lot of thoughtful gamer-friendly features such as an ergonomic keyboard, complete with special markings on those all important W, A, S and D keys. There’s also a comfortable external mouse included, as well as a 1.3-megapixel webcam and both DVI and VGA-out ports. Between the keyboard and the screen you will find the Direct Messenger instant display, which can be configured to show email information, battery level or any custom message. Sound is also well taken care of, with good side and front speakers.
The G series come internally equipped for gaming, but also looks the part externally. The LCD cover comes equipped with special carbon fiber style design that gives the notebook an instant game machine identity. They are all gaming, inside and out. The look is sleek, polished, and solid while the performance is admirable, providing the type of system required for the gamer on the go.
The range is exclusively available at the smart home pioneer Eon in Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates. Leon Beuyukian, CEO of Eon, said, “Eon strives to bring the latest cutting-edge technologies to the UAE market, and introducing the ASUS G Notebook Series is yet another concrete proof of our dedication to deliver the best.”
